Affordable Home Safety Tips That Work

I was contacted by a gentleman who found our SAFE International blog to be valuable.  In our discussions we began to speak about Affordable Home Safety Tips That Work.  He was kind enough to send the following information and infographic which I found both interesting and educational which is why I am sharing it with our blog readers.  Our home is supposed to be our safe haven, but sadly it is often the location of violence through break-ins or home invasions for many.

Affordable Home Safety Tips That Work

A home is a place of security. People feel safe in their homes. It’s a place where we raise our families, relax, sleep, and enjoy what life has offered us. That being said, not all homes are equally safe. Some homes are in areas that are (or can be) more prone to burglary and theft than others.

Regardless of where you live, it’s important to take steps to help reduce or mitigate the risk of a home break in or forcible entry. Luckily, there are a few simple steps can a person can take to help reduce the odds of their home being targeted by someone with bad intentions.

There are a few simple things can be done like just staying vigilant, understanding who lives in you immediate neighborhood, and not doing things that may unintentionally invite a burglar like leaving a key laying around or leaving valuables in plain sight. Those things can function as an invitation to come find out more about what’s inside.

The three tips with the highest impact are:

  • Getting an alarm system. Homes with an alarm system are two to three times less likely to be burglarized than homes without.
  • Lock your doors and windows: about 30% of incidents happen when the burglar enters an open door or window. Simply keeping things locked up cuts off around ⅓ of the incidents from the outset.
  • Be careful who you let into your world: in only 28% of burglaries are the offenders completely unknown to the victim. Choose your acquaintances wisely!

These, and many other great tips, are outlined here in an infographic created by NationalBiometric on how to protect your home from burglary.
