Edged Weapons Self Defense
The cheapest, easiest to acquire and most common weapon used in violence is the knife and other forms of edged weapons. More dangerous than and twice as treacherous as a gun at close range, the knife is by far one of the deadliest tools used in violent confrontations and can be found in every single kitchen household
Whether you are a civilian, self defense instructor, healthcare worker, or work in the security field, The SAFE International™ Edged Weapons course extensively covers the psychology behind an edged attack, the recognition of behavioural patterns, body language, how to evade and escape as well as dozens of drills to improve your close quarter arsenal against an armed attacker in regards to violence prevention training.
Topics covered include static and dynamic attacks, attacks from the front and rear, controlling the weapon hand, dealing with the dreaded rear handed pump and stab while being grabbed by the lead hand, how to increase perception time while decreasing reaction time, how to use functional gross motor skills during the adrenal stress conditions phase, overkill mentality, as well as performance enhancement and survival strategies successfully used by security personnel, bouncers, law enforcement officers and soldiers worldwide.
That said, there is absolutely no guarantee nor is any self defense system fool or variable proof as there are way too many factors to determine absolute success, or in this case, survival. Anyone telling you different is not addressing the reality of violence and all its variables. Edged Weapons training needs to be conceptual in nature, not systematic through the teaching of choreographed "techniques" in response to violence. As with all of our courses, the concepts taught are basic, but highly effective in the event that one can’t avoid confrontation. Knife attacks are particularly frightening to people which is why we stay away from much of the fancy techniques others teach. As mentioned, there are no set moves that will protect you against a knife wielding attacker.
What this and all our modules offer is a differing paradigm along with functional and easily adaptable concepts, attributes and skills to enhance your survivability in a knife attack, not guarantee it. There are no techniques to memorize, no frills, just plain truth on defensive edged weapon attacks.
Edged Weapons Scenario Replication Training - one of the missing links in most self defense training is the opportunity to do drills in which scenarios are replicated to be as realistic as possible. The benefit of this kind of training is immeasurable because it allows the client to experience the stress and adrenaline rush that one will encounter. The combination of realistic verbal attacks with the aggression of a real attack can be addressed with our course. We have the ability to recreate scenarios one may face whether that be as a civilian or specific to one's work. We can do drills in specific scenarios like the home, the car, in the workplace, or out on the street. This type of training brings in the environment and variables one may expect to face. In addition, the reality is that you may hit the ground which may be concrete, gravel, have bottles, needles, etc which is critical to bring into the discussion of realistic violence prevention training.
So whether you are looking to schedule training for your security staff, hospital, family, or yourself, SAFE International™ has a wide array of course lengths and options.
Testimonial from our 2 Day Knife Defense Workshop last weekend with RIchard Dimitri and yours truly.... Thank you for co-leading the Knife Defense Seminar this past weekend. I was debriefing about the weekend with Mark Fan, and I told him that if the seminar ended after the first day - it would have been well worth it! I enjoyed the thick primer of the psychology of individuals in a confrontation and the dynamics of how attacks can occur/escalate/end.
You and Richard brought a great deal of real-life experience to your teaching. You both had a great chemistry as instructors, contrasting heavy topics with fun and humour.
My main takeaway is to be able to adopt the psychology of assholes/sociopaths/psychopaths as part of my training. Man, you put on a heck of a show with Rich! It will help me create new possibilities in training and push my partners in class to another level of skill.
I had no previous knowledge of your work, and so I was simply impressed. I based my attendance on Ryan Durkin's recommendation. I'm happy to have attended your seminar and I hope to enjoy training with you further.
