Managing Director, SAFE International
Teaching Real Self Defense Skills
At the helm of SAFE International™ is founder and CEO Christopher Roberts. Chris has positioned SAFE International™ since its formation 20 years ago, to its current position as Canada’s Leader in self-protection instruction. Through Chris’ vision, SAFE International™ has taught more than 185,000 individuals since 1994 and continues to meet the growing needs of people, corporations, organizations and schools year after year. SAFE International™ has continuously provided both effective, and highly memorable, personal protection instruction through their unique ability to reach clients in a way that enables them to retain and utilize the skills if necessary. This is not a martial arts program, but rather, a practical and realistic approach to personal safety.
Chris discovered very early on that complicated techniques that require regular practice in order to become second nature, are simply not going to help in a potentially life threatening situation. What distinguishes SAFE International™ from all other programs is how they present their courses; with real-life simulated scenarios, with hands-on techniques and with humour, yes… humour. While the subject matter is a very serious one, SAFE International™ knows that learning in a safe, fun and enthusiastic environment is the best way to retain what is being presented. Many companies, if not most, in the self defense industry focus solely on the physical side of personal protection, SAFE International™ focuses on all aspects; from the most important awareness & avoidance phase, to intelligent verbal strategies, and to the physical concepts you may require to enable yourself get home safely to your family.
The mission at SAFE International™ is to teach real self defense skills to as many women, children, and men as possible (from 12 years of age to 82 years of age). Unfortunately we live in an increasingly violent society, SAFE™ wants to share their knowledge and experience with others throughout Canada, the United States, and globally. SAFE International™ has set an ambitious goal to teach 500,000 people by the year 2020, and they are well on their way. They are continually expanding; offering new and innovative services within more geographic boundaries.
Now that they have become the chosen experts in the field of personal protection in Canada, SAFE International™ has expanded to offer their services in the U.S. and internationally. The goal remains the same, which is to be a leader wherever they go. From the humble beginnings standing in front of a class of 20 young women, to the tens of thousands they have now taught, the focus is still the same… “Empower people to save their own lives!”
Please look over our website and feel free to send us any questions, whether it is about our courses or products, or even opportunities to work with SAFE International™.
I quickly realized that women had completely different concerns, fears, and needs than males. I listened to their concerns and tailored something that was not only educational but also met their personal fears. Men have no idea what women go through on an everyday basis from the stares and comments to the physical gestures and advances.
